Digital Media Technology
Digital media technology refers to any software which contributes to programming, editing, marketing and producing media products. Digital media technology allows the products we create to be much creative especially when we are able to combine and use 2 or more different technologies, it enables our work to be more creative and unique. However, in order for our media products to be creative we must understand how to use these softwares to their full extent.
When beginning AS media my knowledge and use of many digital softwares was very limited. I only knew how to use some such as editing effects on apps like Instagram. Therefore when it came to using softwares such as adobe indesign for my As preliminary task, the college magazine I produced was very basic and boring as my creativity was limited due to the fact that I did not understand how to use the software. Therefore by experimenting with the software, I was able to be more creative when creating my music magazine as I could use more of the tools available effectively. Therefore the music magazine I produced was creative as I was able to use tools such as shapes to create boosts and create a layout in oder for my magazine to look professional. However my creativity was still limited as despite making some improvement, I still was not able to use all of the tools provided.
Going into A2 my confidence and knowledge of softwares has greatly improved and therefore so has my creativity in the media products I am producing which include a horror trailer and a magazine and a poster to promote it. Therefore this year I have learnt to use knew types of software such as abode photoshop and final cut. Digital technology has further helped me to improve and expand on my knowledge as I have researched and watched videos on youtube on how to use certain tools on photoshop. Therefore helping to develop my skills and and improve my creativity. For example through overlaying images I can create my own title, I can effectively crop and edit images and overall can use the appropriate tools to their advantage. Moreover, through understanding how to use a cannon camera and camera equipment such as a tripod and a light box, the images and videos I have recorded and used have been much more creative. This is because the tripod has enable shots to be smoothly filmed and the light box had allowed me to create effect in my images and videos.
The use of digital media technology enables products to be much more creative and unique as we are essentially able to create whatever we want if we know how to use the softwares effectively. Therefore, creativity is limited by our knowledge of how to use them. This is evident in the contrast between the creativity in the products I produced in As in comparison to what I produced this year in A2. Therefore I can see that over the two years my understanding of the impact of using digital media technology has improved thus has the creativity of my products.
